Salon duc Tape is a public forum sponsored by NCALF that meets on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month (except for July and August) from 7:00 — 9:00 p.m. Salons address issues related to war and peace, the environment, food production and access, medical care, social change, economic inequality, and other topics of interest to the NCALF community.
Salons typically include a presentation followed by an open discussion. NCALF acknowledges the human need for conversation, and believes that it is critical for establishing and maintaining connection and community. We want people to feel less isolated, more supported, and more aware. We also believe that conversations are important in fostering social change.
Salon duc Tape was founded in 2003 by Ann Ruddy under the auspices of the organization Strength Through Peace (STP). The somewhat quirky name stems from Ann’s assertion that “Conversation and duct tape are essential to civilization. They both hold things together and they’re inexpensive.”
Salon duc Tape was sponsored by STP until the dissolution of that organization in 2018. It was then sponsored for about two years by the Fort Collins Community Action Network (FCCAN). It has been sponsored by NCALF since October of 2020.
