Salon duc Tape – The Carbon Cost of Clothing – May 27th, 2022

How is the fashion industry contributing to the climate crisis?

Our tennis shoes and t-shirts have been co-opted by the fossil fuel industry.  Join long-time Salon participant Gayla Martinez on Friday, May 27th, as she explores the environmental impacts of clothes and shoes.  The presentation will address how the fashion industry has contributed to the climate crisis through the manufacture, distribution, and disposal of these everyday commodities.  We will discuss ways to lessen our impact on the environment by making informed choices concerning our footwear and clothing.

Gayla Maxwell Martinez is a frequent participant in our Salon gatherings.  She is a lifelong clothing label reader, an occasional seamstress, and generally NOT a follower of fashion trends.  But when she began to notice limitations in available fabric options, curiosity led her to investigate changes that have been taking place in the clothing industry.

Salon duc Tape, a public forum sponsored by the Northern Colorado Alliance for a Livable Future, meets on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month from 7:00 — 9:00 p.m.  We will continue to meet via Zoom until coronavirus variants no longer pose the serious threat that they do currently. You will need to register in advance for this salon hereAfter registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information – including a new link – about joining the salon.
