Salon duc Tape – Rejoining the JCPOA with Iran – December 10th, 2021
Can the U.S. give diplomacy a chance?
At the salon on December 10th, Ibrahim Kazerooni and Rob Prince will address the possibility of the U.S. rejoining the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreement with Iran, often otherwise mistakenly called “the Iran Nuclear Deal.” They write, “What could have been a major step towards the normalization of relations between the United States and Iran – Washington returning to the JCPOA appears to be in crisis and floundering, despite yet another effort to revive talks in Vienna. An opportunity missed, more for Washington we will argue, than for Iran which is increasingly turning East for both its economic and political alliances. What positive steps need to be taken to revive the talks and set them on a more positive footing? Is such even possible or simply “happy talk”? And if the talks do not succeed, what then?
Kazerooni and Prince have been political commentators on Middle East Affairs at Boulder-based KGNU Hemispheres – Middle East Dialogues now for eleven years. Kazerooni has a joint PhD from the Iliff School of Theology and the University of Denver’s Korbel School of International Relations. Originally from Najaf, Iraq, he is currently an imam at the Islamic Center of North America in Dearborn, Michigan. Prince is a retired Senior Lecturer of International Affairs at the University of Denver’s Korbel School of International Studies. Born into a large Jewish family in New York City, he now lives in Denver, and is currently an adviser to the Ethiopian Community of the United States.

We will continue to meet via Zoom until the Delta variant of the coronavirus is no longer the serious threat that it is currently. You will need to register in advance for this salon here. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information – including a new link – about joining the salon.
