Salon duc Tape – Immigration System Reform and Immigrant Rights – January 14th, 2022
What are the prospects for reform of the U.S. immigration system this year?
At the salon on January 14th, Joshua Stallings and Miriam Ortiz Mata of the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC) will be will be sharing with us about CIRC and the immigrant rights movement in Colorado. Join us to hear some personal stories from Miriam and Josh, get updates on the national movement for immigration reform, and to learn about our statewide efforts to improve immigrant’s access to healthcare, driver’s licenses, and legal representation.
Josh is the North Regional Organizer for CIRC. He is from New Braunfels, Texas and currently resides in Longmont, Colorado. Josh joined the movement for immigrant rights in 2015 while spending an eye-opening year working at La Sagrada Familia migrant shelter in Tlaxcala, Mexico. He realized then that his own liberation would be bound to that of his immigrant brothers and sisters.
Miriam is the North Region Fellow at CIRC. She immigrated to the U.S. as a child from Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico. Growing up in Aurora, Colorado shaped her passion for social justice and inspired her to help create a world in which Disabled, Queer, Immigrant, and BIPOC People are free to live and flourish. Miriam joined CIRC in March of 2021 and is interested in continuing to learn what justice and liberation means for the immigrant community.
