What are some of the social and environmental issues surrounding these certainties?

Join us for an evening with author Kathy Benjamin and funeral director Cassidy Seager on Friday, September 10th, who will lead us in an engaging and thought-provoking conversation about a topic most people avoid for as long as possible: dying and death. Decisions people make about these most personal of matters have important environmental and social impacts. Some of those include the effect the disposition of one’s body has on the planet and the financial burdens placed on one’s family.  What are the pros and cons of cremation vs. aquamation vs. natural burial? And what are some ways of preparing financially for one of the few guaranteed events we will all face? Failing to do so can cause added stress and strife to families who are already going through one of the toughest times in their life. The only certainties are death and taxes, so why do we only prepare for one?

Kathy Benjamin’s online work has appeared on Mental Floss, Cracked, Grunge, and The Smoking Jacket.  She is the author of Funerals to Die For and most recently It’s Your Funeral!: Plan the Celebration of a Lifetime – Before It’s Too Late. She lives in Austin with her husband and evil bunny rabbit.  Cassidy Seager is a licensed funeral director who recently moved to Colorado to continue her career. She has experience embalming, preparing decedents for visitations, removals, and planning memorial services. Cassidy has a special interest in helping individuals process grief after a loss.
